The Borders Distillery®

Untitled design (18)

The Borders Distillery®, the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837, was commissioned in March of 2018. This new distillery is dedicated to making great whisky and which captures the spirit of the Borders.

Their hometown, Hawick, has a famous history of manufacturing, where cashmere is king and where tweed was invented. The distillery is in a landmark building in the centre of town, making them both familiar and new.

Occupying the site of the former Hawick Electric Company, they have undertaken a careful and complete renovation of the building to a fully functioning distillery.

With a committed attention to detail and a real acknowledgment of the building’s history, every tiny detail has been covered. From the restoration of the original 1930 crane to the lead welded windows this is a build that they are immensely proud of. To find out more or to arrange a tour of the distillery go to https://www.thebordersdistillery.com/.

“Pickwick Cross were recommended to us by a Client. We were just about to sign a gas renewal with our current Supplier. Our gas usage was around 350,000 kWh per month but forecast to increase to around 1,000,000 kWh per month in the near future. The offer from our Supplier was based on a much higher usage (circa 35m kWh per year) which meant the daily standing charge would be over £150 per day. Also, their offer included penalties for over or under-consumption. They didn’t explain these points to us.

The team at Pickwick Cross quickly identified these anomalies and searched the market for alternative offers. They eventually secured us a new, long-term contract which was based on our own estimated usage. The reduction in the daily standing charge alone has saved us around £25,000 per year.” Cameron Smith (Financial Controller – The Three Stills Company Limited).
