The Energy Market. Whether it’s on the news, in the morning papers or colleagues are talking about it at the water cooler, the topic is discussed daily.

The ‘Big Six’ constantly feature in the media, typically due to issues regarding incorrect bills, poor customer service or increasing charges

Many business owners turn to an energy broker, some for the first time, others on a frequent basis, as they look to reduce their costs.

Many businesses use an Energy Broker to help them negotiate their energy contracts, but how many of them know how their Broker is remunerated? Most brokers are paid a commission for each energy contract. This commission is ultimately paid by the Client by way of an uplift or mark-up on the unit rate.

A recent Mussel Club poll illustrated that 70% of members are aware that brokers do charge commission.

But 19% are completely unaware and this is a cause for concern. We believe that in a competitive market, it’s important to be transparent with customers.

So how do you know how much your Broker is charging you in terms of commission?

Just ask them!

If you currently don’t use a broker or would like to benchmark the service you get from your current broker here are a few questions that will help you.

Pickwick Cross, are 100% transparent with our commission, so you know exactly how much we are charging for our services.
